Winter hiking – basic course
Snowshoe hike in arctic conditions can sound like a hard case. However it is also a unique experience that can be handled by a beginner with the right knowledge, gear and attitude. A winter hiking course with an experienced guide gives you confidence to continue exploring the frozen wonderlands yourself.
On the course you will get to know Finnish nature, hiking tradition of the north and “everyone’s rights”, relevant winter gear and skills required for a safe expedition in boreal forest and tundra in winter time. You will also get to try making fire in the snowy conditions and build your own show shelter.
The aim of the course is that you will feel comfortable to head to similar surroundings by yourself. We focus on relaxed nature observation and environmentally sustainable style of hiking.
Course takes place in some of the national parks of Finnish Lapland.
We recommend participating the “Hiking – Basic Course” on summer time before participating on this course. However it is not compulsory.
How should I prepare?
